The Women’s National Basketball Association has entered a new era under its latest collective bargaining agreement, which introduces million-dollar salaries for players. This shift in the league’s economic framework coincides with a competitive landscape where the defending Las Vegas Aces, led by reigning MVP A’ja Wilson, face significant challenges from the Atlanta Dream, New York Liberty, and Indiana Fever.

On 20 August 2026, the league’s schedule features three matches that highlight this evolving power dynamic. The Indiana Fever, who have recovered from a previous season where they were without floor leader Caitlin Clark for much of the time, are reported to be fully healthy. Their availability marks a significant tactical shift for a team identified as a key contender in the current title race.

The New York Liberty, another team cited as a challenger to the Aces, has faced early setbacks. Star player Sabrina Ionesco is currently on the sidelines after rolling her ankle in a preseason game against the Connecticut Sun. This injury adds a layer of uncertainty to the Liberty’s campaign, particularly given that the team was also affected by injuries during the previous season.

The Atlanta Dream have bolstered their roster through a significant offseason move, acquiring Angel Reese from the Chicago Sky. This trade is viewed as a major enhancement to a squad that won 30 games in the prior season, positioning the Dream as a formidable opponent in the current standings.

The 20 August schedule begins at 8 p.m. Eastern with the Indiana Fever visiting the Dallas Wings. This match is available on Amazon Prime Video, as well as on local channels KFAA 29, WTHR Channel 13, and WFAA 8. The evening’s later fixtures are scheduled for 10 p.m. Eastern.

At the 10 p.m. slot, the Connecticut Sun will face the Las Vegas Aces, a game broadcast on NBC Sports Boston and KMCC - The Spot Vegas 34. Simultaneously, the Atlanta Dream will take on the Los Angeles Sparks, with coverage provided on Amazon Prime Video.
