New England Patriots defensive tackle Christian Barmore has set a clear objective to increase his sack totals for the 2026 season, citing a need to refine his finishing ability. Although Barmore was regarded as one of the most disruptive interior linemen in the National Football League during the 2025 campaign, his statistical output in terms of quarterback takedowns did not fully reflect his impact on the field.

In a combined 21 regular season and playoff games last year, Barmore recorded only three sacks, despite registering 55 other pressures. He noted that his missed tackle rate reached an uncharacteristically high 23.5% in 2025, a factor he believes hindered his ability to convert pressure into sacks.

Speaking following the first joint practice with the Philadelphia Eagles, Barmore emphasised the importance of patience against the league’s increasingly mobile quarterbacks. He stated that his goal is to maintain discipline and avoid running past opponents, focusing on completing the tackle rather than relying solely on initial disruption.

The 2025 season marked a significant recovery for Barmore, who had previously been sidelined by blood clots that disrupted his 2024 campaign. His return allowed him to work in tandem with free agent signing Milton Williams, helping to establish the tone for the New England defence throughout the year.

Barmore’s performance last season also solidified his standing with the franchise, which had recently secured his services with a four-year, $84 million contract extension. As the team prepares for the new season, the focus for the defensive line is on translating raw pressure into measurable statistical gains.

Barmore acknowledged that while he generated numerous quarterback hits and pressures, the critical area for development is the final step of the play. He expressed a commitment to ensuring that every opportunity to make a play is capitalised upon, aiming to reduce the number of missed tackles in the upcoming 2026 season.
