WIIRed Review: Dyson V10 Konical Emerges as Top Affordable Stick Vacuum
In a comparative assessment of five models, the V10 Konical secured second place, outperforming higher-spec units in specific rug tests while offering features absent in its lower-priced sibling.
WIRED has published a review of the Dyson V10 Konical stick vacuum, identifying it as the preferred option among the company’s new affordable models. In side-by-side testing against four other Dyson units—including the V8 Cyclone, V15 Detect, V16 Piston Animal, and Gen5Detect—the V10 Konical achieved a score of 14 out of 20, placing second overall. The device is priced $100 above the V8 Cyclone and features 150 air watts of suction, a 60-minute battery life, and a specialised “All Floor Cones” cleaner head designed to mitigate hair tangling.
The review notes that the V10 Konical outperformed the V8 Cyclone and V15 Detect in side-by-side testing, particularly in picking up sand from rugs. Despite generating lower suction power than the V15 Detect’s 240 air watts, reviewers noted similar performance on carpet due to efficient motor and head design. The vacuum’s engine incorporates 15 cyclone chambers, allowing it to deliver impressive suction for its power and price point, even feeling effective in handheld mode.
Equipped with the new “All Floor Cones” cleaner head, the device uses cone-shaped structures to detangle hair and pick up debris. It includes a built-in illuminating light for hard floors and comes with a crevice tool and a mini motorized tool for upholstery. Unlike older models, the V10 also features fully sealed, five-stage HEPA filters to trap allergens, a specification not included in the cheaper V8 Cyclone or the more expensive V15 Detect.
Battery management is handled by a seven-cell lithium battery providing a 60-minute runtime. The device utilises three power modes—Eco, Medium, and Max—indicated by LED lights on the mode button rather than a digital screen. While this design lacks a real-time battery life display, the V10 performed well in tests involving sand, cereal, and carpeted stairs, though it required multiple passes for cat litter on hard floors compared to high-end models with specific “Fluffy” heads.
The vacuum is also compatible with Dyson’s upcoming “Auto-empty Dok” docking station, scheduled for release later in the year. Only the V10 Konical and the V16 Piston Animal are slated to work with this dock. WIRED concluded that for consumers set on a Dyson product, the V10 Konical offers the best value on the affordable end of the scale, providing a superior all-around experience to the V8 while remaining a cost-effective alternative to premium models.
