West Ham United agree £68 million Summerville sale to Al-Hilal
Italian side AS Roma were outbid with a £39 million offer as the Hammers look to rebuild for an immediate Premier League return.
West Ham United have agreed a £68 million ($90.9 million) deal to sell winger Crysencio Summerville to Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal. The agreement effectively ends Manchester United’s pursuit of the Dutch international, who had been a target for the Red Devils following West Ham’s relegation to the EFL Championship.
Italian side AS Roma had expressed interest in the player but were outbid, having offered approximately £39 million ($52.2 million). The London club reached the agreement with the Saudi outfit, marking a significant financial move as the Hammers look to reinvest the substantial transfer fee to secure an immediate return to the top tier.
Summerville, who scored five goals in the Premier League last season, is expected to undergo a medical before finalising the move. The transfer follows the departure of another West Ham player of interest to Manchester United, with Mateus Fernandes having already completed a big-money transfer to Tottenham Hotspur.
West Ham’s squad overhaul continues as they navigate life in the Championship. The club’s sole completed signing to date is Venezuelan international Keiber Lamadrid. However, there has been a significant positive in the form of captain Jarrod Bowen, who has publicly committed to remaining at the club.
Bowen stated his main motivation is staying to bring the club back to the Premier League, citing the ambition outlined by owners Daniel Kretinsky and Jiri Svarc. He emphasised his long-term connection to the club and his desire to help the team recover from the relegation that he said hurt everyone involved.
