Watford overturn Preston lead to win 2-1 in Championship
Second-half goals from Edo Kayembe and Mamadou Doumbia completed Watford’s comeback at Vicarage Road, consigning Preston to a fifth league defeat in six matches.
Watford came from behind to beat Preston North End 2-1 at Vicarage Road in the Sky Bet Championship, recovering from a poor first half to secure victory.
Preston took the lead in the sixth minute when Callum Lang reacted quickest after Federico Ravaglia saved Jordan Thompson’s shot. Lang then missed an opportunity to double the visitors’ advantage in the 18th minute.
Watford made three substitutions at half-time, with Othmane Maamma, Iker Bravo and Stephy Mavididi introduced. The hosts continued to struggle for clear chances, while Preston missed another opening when Harry Clarke’s effort was saved against the post.
The turnaround began in the 69th minute. Maamma created space on the left before crossing for Edo Kayembe, who equalised from close range.
Watford moved ahead seven minutes later when Bravo supplied a cross for Mamadou Doumbia to head home from a narrow angle. Sky Sports reported that the result gave Preston a fifth defeat in six league matches.
Watford had been limited to eight substitutes, including two goalkeepers, because of injuries.
