Virginia Tech defensive coordinator praises Jaquez White’s versatility as fall camp begins

Virginia Tech defensive coordinator Brent Pry has expressed significant relief and enthusiasm regarding the health of cornerback Jaquez White, who is now participating in fall camp. The defensive leader described his previous reaction to White’s spring game injury as "deflating" and "heartbroken," contrasting that earlier sentiment with his current excitement as the team prepares for the upcoming season.

White, a 5-foot-11, 192-pound player, transferred to Virginia Tech from Troy this winter. His recruitment path was notable, having received little attention from colleges out of high school in Georgia. After playing two seasons at Division II school Washburn and one season at Troy, White entered the transfer portal and quickly became a priority acquisition for the Hokies.

Pry emphasised White’s physical attributes and tactical flexibility, describing him as a "well-rounded corner" with size, speed, length, and agility. The coordinator noted that White possesses a rare combination of corner and safety traits, suggesting he could potentially play any position in the secondary. Pry also mentioned that Troy’s coaches had "showered him with praise" during recent communications.

The Virginia Tech cornerback group is expected to be a strength for the team this season, bolstered by a mix of returning players and newcomers. Alongside White, the depth chart includes Isaiah Brown-Murray, Joshua Clarke, Jojo Crim, and Thomas Williams, as well as new additions Kenny Woseley Jr., Cam Chadwick, and Amauri Polydor.

The Hokies began fall camp last week, with White present and healthy, marking a positive shift from the uncertainty surrounding his spring game injury.
