Nebraska Football Targets Local Prospect Dominic Yancy for Season Opener Visit
The program is engaging in early recruitment for the Class of 2028, despite having Trae Taylor under centre.
Nebraska football has extended an invitation to local high school quarterback Dominic Yancy to visit the programme during the season-opening contest against Ohio. The prospect, a member of the Class of 2028 from Omaha North, confirmed the engagement via social media on 10 August 2026.
The invitation underscores the university’s strategy to secure local talent early, even though the squad currently features Trae Taylor at the quarterback position. While the Huskers have historically maintained a selective approach regarding recruitment from within the state, the programme is actively monitoring the emergence of new talent from Nebraska high schools.
Yancy has recorded 505 passing yards, eight touchdowns, and two interceptions across 10 games this season. He has also demonstrated significant effectiveness on the ground, accumulating 145 rushing yards on 26 carries, including a touchdown, which averages 14.5 yards per attempt. He has not yet been rated in the On3 industry rankings.
Interest in the prospect extends beyond Lincoln. The University of South Dakota and the University of Wyoming have also contacted Yancy regarding recruitment, indicating a competitive landscape for the local athlete as he begins his collegiate evaluation process.
The visit is scheduled for the team’s first game of the 2026 season. The invitation highlights the programme’s efforts to get ahead of the recruiting curve, prioritising long-term roster planning over immediate positional needs.
