Vingegaard withdraws from 2026 Tour de France following Stage 15 crash
The 2022 and 2023 champion, who held second place in the general classification, was treated for a right arm injury while leader Tadej Pogacar avoids the incident.
Denmark’s Jonas Vingegaard has withdrawn from the 2026 Tour de France following a crash on the 15th stage. The 29-year-old, who was second in the general classification, abandoned the race on Sunday after falling approximately 20 kilometres from the finish at the Plateau de Solaison.
Vingegaard went down in a roundabout, an incident that also involved several of his Visma-Lease a Bike teammates and Mexican rider Isaac del Toro. Del Toro was able to continue the race following the collision. Vingegaard was treated by an ambulance and was seen with his right arm in a sling, appearing to be in significant pain before exiting the event.
Yellow jersey holder Tadej Pogacar avoided the crash entirely. The Slovenian rider, a four-time winner of the race, maintained his position at the top of the standings. Pogacar entered the stage with a four-minute and 30-second lead over Vingegaard in the general classification.
Vingegaard previously secured victories in the Tour de France in 2022 and 2023. His withdrawal comes as the race continues through its later stages, with Pogacar now holding a substantial advantage in the overall competition.
