The guide emphasises that screen size alone is not a reliable indicator of the required VESA pattern. Although larger televisions often utilise larger mounting patterns, there is no definitive rule linking the two. Consequently, consumers are advised to avoid guessing based on the size of the screen. Instead, the most reliable method is to consult the specific model’s manual or the manufacturer’s support page, where the wall-mount specifications are typically listed in millimetres.

If official specifications are unavailable, Engadget suggests that users can measure the holes directly. This involves measuring from the centre of one mounting hole to the centre of the corresponding hole, both horizontally and vertically. The result should be recorded in the format of horizontal by vertical millimetres. This direct measurement allows for an accurate comparison with the specifications listed on potential mounts.

A key finding in the guide is that a matching VESA pattern ensures the bracket aligns with the display’s holes, but it does not guarantee safety. Many mounts support multiple VESA patterns, meaning a bracket does not need to be limited to the exact size of the television. However, users must independently verify that the mount’s maximum weight limit exceeds the weight of the TV. A bracket may fit the pattern perfectly yet be unsuitable if the television is too heavy for the load rating.

Finally, the guide notes that VESA compatibility says nothing about the hardware required for installation. Once the pattern and weight rating are confirmed, consumers should check the TV manufacturer’s instructions for the specific mounting screws required. They must also follow the mount manufacturer’s guidelines for attaching the bracket to the wall to ensure a secure and safe setup.
