Valve has set US pricing for its Steam Frame virtual-reality headset at US$1,059 for the 256GB model and US$1,299 for the 1TB version. Both prices include the controllers and a voucher for Half-Life: Alyx.

Valve says Half-Life: Alyx has been rebuilt to run entirely on the headset. The company attributed that capability to foveated rendering and eye tracking, alongside more than a year of additional work on Vulkan drivers and SteamVR.

Reservations are scheduled to close on 17 September at 10am PT. Valve will randomise the order of prospective buyers, with purchase emails expected to begin from 18 September as availability allows. Applicants not allocated a reservation will remain on a waitlist.

The headset is expected to launch with 130 standalone verified titles and support Gamepad mode for 2D games through its unified dashboard. Valve also said it had improved multi-link streaming, input focus, depth projection and visual sharpness.

Optional accessories include a US$29 power supply, a US$49 replacement kit and a US$59 ergonomic accessories kit. Prescription lenses from Zenni Optical and an RGB camera from Arcturus are planned, although pricing for those products has not been disclosed. No Australian pricing or local availability has been provided.
