USA’s 4-2 win over Chile brings youth and experience together
Goals from Sebastian Berhalter, Julian Hall, Chris Richards and Mathis Albert secured the exhibition win in St Louis, with Albert setting a US programme record, according to Fox Sports.
The United States beat Chile 4-2 in an exhibition match in St Louis on Tuesday, recovering after the visitors took the lead early in the second half. Fox Sports described the match as part of the first international gathering of the USA’s 2030 World Cup cycle.
Sebastian Berhalter opened the scoring late in the first half. After Chile’s Maximiliano Gutiérrez put his side ahead, Julian Hall equalised less than three minutes later, with Fox Sports reporting Gio Reyna supplied the pass.
Chris Richards headed in from a Berhalter corner with about 20 minutes remaining, and Mathis Albert scored in second-half stoppage time to complete the result.
Fox Sports reported that Albert, aged 17, became the youngest scorer in US programme history, surpassing a record set by Christian Pulisic.
The win followed a 4-1 victory over Peru three days earlier. The USA were scheduled to face Mexico and Canada next in the late September and early October friendly window.
