Nikola Jovic says offseason reset followed difficult Miami Heat season

The forward said he needed to take responsibility for how he reacted when play went against him after a season marked by limited production and injuries.

Miami Heat forward Nikola Jovic says he used the offseason to reset mentally after a difficult season, reflecting on how he responded when things did not go his way.

Speaking at the team’s training camp media availability at Florida Atlantic University, Jovic said he had sometimes felt “everybody was against me” and recognised he had been “thinking the wrong way”. He said he needed to take responsibility and “grow up a little bit”.

Jovic averaged 7.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 47 games last season, according to ClutchPoints. The report also lists shooting percentages of 36.6 per cent from the field and 26.9 per cent from three-point range.

He dealt with hip, back, ankle and elbow injuries during the season, but the report says he did not blame them for his performance. Jovic instead pointed to the mental side of his game as an area he needed to address.
