US turns singles deficit into 11th straight Presidents Cup
Nine singles wins helped the United States overturn a 10.5–7.5 deficit and beat the International team 17–13 at Medinah.
The United States won its 11th consecutive Presidents Cup, rallying in Sunday’s singles to defeat the International team 17–13 at Medinah. The team entered the final day trailing 10.5–7.5.
The International team needed five points from the 12 singles matches to win; the United States needed eight for an outright victory. The Americans won nine matches and halved one.
Collin Morikawa and rookie Jackson Koivun turned around key matches on the back nine. Koivun came back from two down to beat Si Woo Kim by two holes.
Jacob Bridgeman secured the clinching point with a 1-up win over Min Woo Lee, taking the United States to the 15.5 points required to seal the result.
The International team’s only Presidents Cup win came in 1998; the teams tied in 2003. ESPN reports the next event is scheduled for Kingston Heath in Australia in two years.
