US carrier group heads towards Iran as diplomatic talks continue
A US official told Al Jazeera that three aircraft carriers and two amphibious landing groups are expected in the region by the end of November.

The USS Theodore Roosevelt carrier strike group is heading towards the region around Iran, according to a US official cited by Al Jazeera. The official said three US aircraft carriers and two amphibious landing groups are expected there by the end of November.
Al Jazeera reported that the Roosevelt group left San Diego on Sunday, followed a day later by the Makin Island Marine Expeditionary Force, carrying more than 2,000 Marines. The movements and timetable are reported plans, not confirmed completed deployments.
The report said the build-up comes as Washington maintains military pressure while diplomatic efforts continue. Al Jazeera correspondent Tanya Noury said the deployment adds F-35 fighter jets and thousands of troops to roughly 50,000 US service members already in the region.
Iran has proposed a seven-day roadmap involving the Strait of Hormuz, nuclear talks and a regional ceasefire. The proposal’s terms and the US response remain unclear.
The report does not specify the planned forces’ precise location, and its deployment details are attributed to a US official and Al Jazeera reporting.
