US and Pakistan coordinate repatriation of crew from seized Iranian vessel MV Touska

Twenty-two crew members from the Iranian container ship MV Touska have been transferred to Pakistan for repatriation following their vessel's seizure by United States forces. The individuals were flown to Pakistan on Sunday night and are scheduled to be handed over to Iranian authorities, according to a statement issued by Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Ministry described the operation as a confidence-building measure by the United States of America. This diplomatic gesture follows the interception of the MV Touska on 19 April off the coast of Chabahar port in the Gulf of Oman, where US forces boarded the vessel for allegedly failing to comply with the naval blockade against Iranian ports.
Coordination for the repatriation effort was conducted between the US Central Command and Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. US outlet ABC reported that CENTCOM spokesperson Captain Tim Hawkins confirmed the completion of the transfer, noting that six additional passengers, identified as family members of the crew, had been repatriated to a regional country the previous week.
The MV Touska, a small container ship operated by the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) group, remains in Pakistani territorial waters. The vessel is currently undergoing necessary repairs before it can be returned to its original owners. The extent of the damage and the precise timeline for the ship's return to Iranian territorial waters have not been specified.
