UCLA Softball Advances in NCAA Regionals After Defeating South Carolina
Senior pitcher Taylor Tinsley leads UCLA past South Carolina, setting up a decisive Game Six on Sunday.

The No. 8 seeded UCLA softball team has advanced in the NCAA tournament following a 7-2 victory over South Carolina in Game Three of the Los Angeles Regionals. The match, held at Easton Stadium on Saturday, concluded a tense series between the two programmes, with UCLA securing the win after a previous narrow defeat against California Baptist.
Senior right-handed pitcher Taylor Tinsley was instrumental in the outcome, pitching the entirety of the game. Tinsley allowed seven hits, one walk, and one hit-by-pitch, while striking out six batters. Her performance stabilised the Bruins' defence after a high-scoring shootout on Friday, where UCLA lost 12-11 to California Baptist.
South Carolina took an early advantage in the top of the second inning with a home run to left field. However, UCLA responded decisively in the bottom of the second, scoring six runs to take control of the game. The surge began with a two-run home run by freshman infielder Bri Alejandre.
The scoring continued as junior utility player Soo-Jin Berry hit a double to right-center, driving in catcher Alexis Ramirez and infielder Kaniya Bragg. Berry later scored herself as senior utility player Megan Grant hit a two-run home run, extending UCLA's lead.
South Carolina managed to score again in the third inning via a home run to right field, but UCLA maintained their advantage. Redshirt freshman infielder Aleena Garcia added a solo home run to center field in the bottom of the fifth, securing the Bruins' final run. Tinsley and the UCLA defence allowed no further hits in the final two innings, with the only South Carolina baserunner in that period being hit by a pitch in the top of the seventh.
The victory sets up a rematch between the two teams in Game Six of the Los Angeles Regionals. South Carolina advanced to this final regional game after defeating Cal State Fullerton in Game Five late on Saturday. The matchup is scheduled for Sunday at 4:30 p.m. PT.
