Tyler Perry offers to pay nearly US$18,000 lien after Allstate claim denial
The offer followed a reported water-damage dispute that left 81-year-old Brenda Daurham displaced from her Illinois home.
Tyler Perry has offered to pay a mechanic’s lien of nearly US$18,000 placed on an Illinois woman’s home after Allstate reportedly denied her claim for water damage.
Brenda Daurham, 81, said a pipe under her sink burst on Valentine’s Day, causing extensive damage. She had lived in the property and paid homeowners insurance for more than 40 years, according to reporting cited by Yahoo Finance.
A restoration company repaired the property and later filed the lien, which reportedly excludes possible interest and legal fees. The company said the damage resulted from a “sudden and accidental escape of water”, which it argued was covered under Daurham’s policy.
Perry said on Facebook that he would pay the lien. It remains unclear whether payment has been made or whether he will fund further work on the reportedly uninhabitable home.
The account, reported by Yahoo Finance and citing Fox 32 Chicago, said Daurham remains displaced. Allstate had not immediately responded to a request for comment, while the precise basis for the reported denial has not been independently verified.
The report also cited a 2024 Weiss Ratings report, which said 42% of home insurance claims closed with no payment, rising to 48% among the 14 largest insurers. Those figures have not been independently verified.
