Buxton went 3 for 4 with three hits, including a drive in the second inning that followed Ryan Jeffers' go-ahead, two-run homer in the fourth. Jeffers' contribution was pivotal as he put the Twins ahead 2-1 against Toronto starter Kevin Gausman, a lead the home side never relinquished.
Daulton Varsho added to the offensive output with a home run off Twins reliever Bailey Ober in the fourth inning. Austin Martin also contributed with an RBI single in the sixth, ensuring the margin of victory remained substantial as the Twins controlled the tempo of the game throughout the night.
The performance of the Twins' bullpen was the defining factor in the match, with Anthony Banda, Andrew Morris, and Justin Topa combining for a two-hit performance. In contrast, Toronto starter Kevin Gausman struggled significantly, surrendering four earned runs in 5 2/3 innings. The four runs allowed represented a season-high total for the pitcher, who also issued two walks and recorded four hits. Defensive miscues by third baseman Kazuma Okamoto and shortstop Andrés Giménez further compounded the Blue Jays' difficulties, contributing to a pair of unearned runs in the eighth inning.
Bailey Ober, who allowed four hits over six-plus innings, took the loss for Toronto. The Blue Jays will look to regroup for their next outing on Friday, when left-hander Patrick Corbin is scheduled to face Minnesota right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson.
