Troy Melton exits Tigers game with apparent injury
The Detroit starter left in the fourth inning after a mound visit, with the White Sox leading 3–0.
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Troy Melton was removed during the fourth inning against the Chicago White Sox on Sunday after the pitching coach, manager and a trainer visited the mound.
Melton left with Chicago leading 3–0 and was replaced by Tyler Holton. He had pitched 3⅔ innings, allowing four hits and four runs while recording four strikeouts and three walks.
Yahoo Sports reported that Melton showed no obvious signs of injury. No diagnosis or indication of the issue’s severity was provided.
The 25-year-old returned on 24 May after spending 60 days on the injured list following a diagnosis of right elbow inflammation in late February. He said on Saturday that he felt healthy after rehabilitation.
Before Sunday’s game, Melton had a 2.60 earned-run average across his first 23 career starts dating to July 2025.
