Tottenham secure Andy Robertson on free transfer from Liverpool
The 32-year-old left-back joins on 1 July after nine years at Anfield, marking a significant shift in Tottenham’s squad structure and leadership.

Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Scotland captain Andy Robertson from Liverpool on a free transfer. The 32-year-old left-back will officially join the club on 1 July following the expiry of his contract, becoming the first new signing under manager Roberto de Zerbi.
Robertson departs Anfield after a nine-year tenure in which he made 378 appearances. His time at Liverpool was defined by significant success, including two Premier League titles, the Champions League, two League Cups, and the FA Cup. He leaves with 92 caps for the national team and will captain Scotland in their first World Cup campaign since 1998 this summer.
The move follows a period of reduced playing time for Robertson under former Liverpool manager Arne Slot. The defender fell behind Milos Kerkez in the squad hierarchy last season, making only 11 Premier League starts. This shift in role prompted an earlier attempt by Tottenham to sign him during the January transfer window.
That initial deal collapsed after Liverpool failed to recall Kostas Tsimikas from his loan at Roma to provide adequate cover. At the time, Tottenham were managed by Thomas Frank, according to the source material, before Roberto de Zerbi took charge and led the club to Premier League survival with a victory over Everton on the final day of the season.
De Zerbi praised Robertson’s technical qualities, experience, and leadership. Sporting director Johan Lange added that Robertson’s professionalism and commitment would be invaluable to the development of the squad, noting that the defender shares the club’s ambition to bring success back to Tottenham.
