Toronto police investigate second shooting at US consulate amid security concerns

Police in Toronto are investigating a shooting incident outside the US Consulate General on Monday morning, the second such attack at the diplomatic mission in four months. Authorities confirmed that at least one shot was fired near the building, resulting in damage to the facade and the discovery of a shell casing. No injuries were reported.
A white sedan was observed fleeing the scene at approximately 5am local time. Police initiated a pursuit but abandoned the chase due to safety concerns regarding the vehicle’s ultra-high speed. No suspects have been arrested, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford responded to the incident by stating that those responsible would be found, prosecuted, and punished to the fullest extent of the law. A spokesperson for the US Department of State confirmed that Washington is working closely with Canadian authorities to address the situation.
Toronto police declined to speculate on the motive for the shooting or whether it is linked to previous incidents. This caution follows a March attack at the same location, where several shots were fired and a police officer was killed during an operation to arrest those responsible.
In June, Toronto police alleged that young people in the area were being recruited via encrypted messaging apps to shoot at various targets for payment. The alleged targets included synagogues, Jewish schools, a waste management company, and the US Consulate. Police stated these allegations were based on ongoing investigations in cooperation with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the US FBI, though no evidence was provided at that time.
