Tochigi police probe unregistered plates after teen’s confession in home invasion
Authorities in Japan are investigating the escape vehicle used by accomplices in a deadly residential robbery, following an arrest and confession from a high school student.

Police in Tochigi Prefecture have launched an investigation into the registration status of a vehicle used to flee the scene of a violent home invasion that left a family injured or dead. The inquiry follows the arrest of a male high school student, who claims to be 16 years old, and his subsequent confession regarding the involvement of other individuals.
According to NHK News Japan, the incident occurred on 14 May in a residence in Kamimigawa Town. A family of three was attacked during the break-in, resulting in fatalities and injuries. The arrested suspect has reportedly confessed that he was invited to participate in the robbery by a peer of the same age.
The suspect’s statement indicates that additional accomplices were present during the commission of the crime. He alleged that these other individuals escaped the scene by car. Police are currently treating this account as part of their investigative framework, though the existence and identity of these alleged accomplices remain unverified.
Investigators are focusing on the possibility that the vehicle used for the escape was operating with unregistered number plates. This detail is being scrutinised as part of the broader effort to identify all parties involved and reconstruct the timeline of the offence.
The case has been classified as a residential robbery. Authorities continue to gather evidence to substantiate the claims made by the arrested student and to determine the full scope of the criminal activity.
