Thunder's Jalen Williams pulled a Victor Wembanyama after nightmare Game 6
Jalen Williams mirrors Victor Wembanyama’s conduct in Western Conference Finals

Oklahoma City Thunder forward Jalen Williams departed the arena without speaking to the media following the team’s 118-91 loss to the San Antonio Spurs in Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals. The decision mirrors the conduct of Spurs star Victor Wembanyama, who received a formal warning from the NBA for similar media avoidance after Game 5.

Williams, returning from a left hamstring injury sustained in Game 2, played 10 minutes off the bench in the blowout defeat. He scored one point via a free throw, committed two turnovers, and finished with a minus-10 plus-minus rating. His limited and ineffective performance came after missing three consecutive games due to the injury.

Tim MacMahon reported that Williams exited the venue without seeking media availability. The NBA enforces strict protocols regarding post-game press interactions, and failure to seek prior approval for absence can result in disciplinary action. While Wembanyama was issued a warning for his initial violation, league sources indicate that Williams could face a similar or more severe penalty if he does not adhere to these standards.

Despite the poor statistical output, teammate Chet Holmgren praised Williams’ resilience. Holmgren described the forward as a “tough dude” for playing through the hamstring injury, noting his determination to contribute despite the physical limitations. Williams had previously demonstrated his offensive capability by scoring 26 points in 37 minutes during Game 1 of the series.

The Spurs forced a decisive Game 7 with a dominant third-quarter performance, outscoring the Thunder 32-13 and holding them scoreless for seven minutes and 28 seconds. The series now shifts to Oklahoma City, where the Thunder hold a 3-2 lead. Uncertainty remains regarding Williams’ physical readiness for the final game, though he is expected to play.
