The film also became available for digital rental or purchase six weeks prior to its streaming launch.
The movie serves as a sequel to the original Disney+ series The Mandalorian, which was instrumental in driving subscriptions to the platform. The narrative continues to follow the titular bounty hunter and his ward, a 55-year-old member of Yoda’s species who appears as a baby. The story also features the appearance of the son of Jabba the Hutt.
Critical reception for the film has been largely muted. Reviewers have described the movie as resembling stitched-together television episodes rather than a traditional feature film. The film is considered suitable for older children and teenagers, featuring simple stakes and minimal dialogue due to the nature of its lead characters.
The original series spawned an interconnected Star Wars television universe, leading to direct sequel shows such as The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka. Currently, the platform has limited upcoming Star Wars content, with only season two of Ahsoka confirmed on the horizon.
