WIRED names Bose earbuds its top pick for noise cancellation in 2026 guide
WIRED has updated its recommendations across Bose, Apple, Samsung, Sony, Beats, Anker and JLab, with models selected for different ecosystems, budgets and uses.
WIRED has updated its 2026 guide to the best noise-cancelling earbuds, revising its recommendations, specifications, prices and links. The Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen) retain the publication’s top ranking for active noise cancellation.
WIRED says the second-generation Bose earbuds delivered the strongest ANC performance in its testing, blocking much of the noise on subway platforms and flights. The model also adds improved connectivity, wireless charging, personalised sound tuning and expanded app customisation, although WIRED describes the earbuds as bulky and cites six hours of battery life.
The guide recommends the Soundcore Liberty 5 Pro for noise cancellation below US$200, highlighting its fit, battery life, IP55 dust and water resistance and call quality. For iPhone users, WIRED points to the Apple AirPods Pro 3 for their device connectivity, Find My integration, noise cancellation and transparency mode.
Samsung users are directed towards the Galaxy Buds4 Pro, while Google Pixel owners are offered the smaller Pixel Buds Pro 2. Other recommendations include Sony’s WF-1000XM6 for sound quality, Beats Powerbeats Pro 2 for sport and JLab earbuds as a budget option at about US$30.
WIRED says its testing covered comfort, battery life, controls, calls, music and use in commutes, gyms, cafes, subway platforms and flights. The publication also notes that Apple has added ANC to the entry-level AirPods 5, which it plans to test.
Active noise cancellation combines passive sound isolation with microphones and software that generate opposing sound waves to reduce external noise. Prices, availability and features may vary between markets, including Australia, and WIRED’s rankings reflect reviewer testing and preferences rather than an independent laboratory assessment.
