Head coach Mike Elko secures fourth-ranked transfer class to replace NFL Draft departures

Texas A&M University football head coach Mike Elko has finalised the nation’s fourth-ranked transfer class for the 2026 season, a strategic move designed to replenish the roster after significant departures. The Aggies lost 14 players to the transfer portal and saw 10 players selected in the 2026 NFL Draft, including five of their six starting offensive linemen. This recruitment drive follows a historic 2025 campaign where the team achieved an 11-0 record and made their first-ever College Football Playoff appearance.

The program has identified three specific transfers expected to address immediate positional needs. Wide receiver Isaiah Horton arrives from Alabama to provide a vertical threat that the previous season’s receiving corps lacked. Horton, who stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 208 pounds, recorded 42 receptions for 511 yards and eight touchdowns for the Crimson Tide in 2025. He previously spent three seasons at the Miami Hurricanes and is viewed as a solution to the Aggies' need for a big-bodied wideout capable of beating man coverage.

On the defensive side, edge rusher Anto Saka joins from Northwestern to bolster the pass rush. Saka, a 6-foot-4, 255-pound athlete, recorded 13 total tackles, three sacks, and two forced fumbles during his junior season. Over three seasons with the Wildcats, he accumulated 41 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, and 12 sacks. His arrival aims to stabilise the defensive unit following the departure of standout Cashius Howell.

The most critical vacancy lies on the offensive line, where Texas A&M lost five of its six starters to the professional league. To address this, the Aggies signed former LSU left tackle Tyree Adams. Adams demonstrated significant durability and skill in 2025, allowing no sacks in 276 blocking snaps despite an ankle injury that limited his playing time. He is noted for his versatility, having played every offensive line spot except centre, and is expected to bring elite run-blocking capabilities to the unit.

These signings build upon the success of previous transfer standouts such as KC Concepcion and Mario Craver, who helped lead the Aggies to their first undefeated season since 1992. Elko, now in his third year at Texas A&M, has prioritised physicality and versatility in the portal to maintain the team’s competitive edge in the SEC. The incoming class is expected to integrate with existing players like Mario Craver, Terry Bussey, and Ashton Bethel-Roman to sustain the program’s high performance standards.
