Houston Texans rookie safety Kamari Ramsey recorded his first career NFL interception during the team’s preseason match against the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday night. The turnover occurred just before the halftime interval, providing a significant momentum shift for the Texans’ defence.
Ramsey intercepted a pass thrown by Chargers quarterback Trey Lance while the opposition was facing a first-and-10 situation deep inside Houston territory, just outside the red zone. The rookie safety demonstrated strong reading of the play, jumping on the throw and returning the ball all the way to the Chargers’ 48-yard line.
The play was highlighted by the Houston Texans’ official social media channels, which shared footage of the interception sourced from local broadcaster @abc13houston. The team’s digital presence underscored the significance of the play for the rookie, noting the achievement with the caption “THE ROOK GOT HIS INT”.
Despite the favourable field position created by Ramsey’s turnover, the Texans were unable to convert the opportunity into points. Rookie kicker Chris Freeman attempted a 59-yard field goal as time expired in the first half, but the kick was unsuccessful.
The missed attempt left Houston trailing 10-7 at the end of the first half. The result highlights the ongoing challenges for the Texans’ special teams unit, as Freeman’s miss prevented the side from taking a lead or tying the game before the interval.
