Team USA reaches 12th straight World Cup semi-final after Hungary rout
Napheesa Collier scored 19 points as the United States defeated Hungary 108–56 in Berlin.
The United States has advanced to its 12th consecutive FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup semi-final after defeating Hungary 108–56 in Thursday’s quarter-final in Berlin.
Napheesa Collier led the Americans with 19 points, while Caitlin Clark recorded a game-high nine assists. Yahoo Sports reported that Team USA also set a World Cup quarter-final assist record, although the total was not provided.
Five United States players finished in double figures. Breanna Stewart scored eight points and Paige Bueckers added seven, while Collier, Kahleah Copper and Angel Reese each collected six rebounds.
Hungary was led by Reka Lelik with 12 points. Dorka Juhász, Collier’s Minnesota Lynx teammate, scored two points and finished with eight rebounds.
Hungary had last reached the World Cup quarter-finals in 1986, when it also lost to the United States. Team USA will meet the winner of Spain and Australia in Saturday’s semi-final.
