Tate brothers arrested in Miami as UK seeks extradition on new charges

Andrew and Tristan Tate have been arrested in Miami, Florida, following the execution of a sealed warrant by the United States Marshals Service. The detention places the dual US-UK citizens at the centre of an intensifying international legal dispute, as the UK Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) moves to extradite them to face 59 new charges. The allegations, which span the period between 2010 and 2017, include rape, sex trafficking, and assault.

The British prosecutors have laid 42 charges against Andrew Tate and 17 against Tristan Tate. The specific counts against Andrew include seven further allegations of rape, three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation, three counts of assault, and 19 charges relating to indecent images of a child and extreme pornography. Tristan faces one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape, and three counts of arranging or facilitating sex trafficking.

Andrew Tate, 39, and Tristan Tate, 38, are prominent figures in the online "manosphere," known for promoting views on traditional masculinity and antifeminism. Andrew maintains a significant social media presence, although he has been banned from several major platforms for violating hate speech guidelines. The brothers, who are avid supporters of US President Donald Trump, have denied all allegations. Their lawyer, Joseph McBride, stated that the brothers are innocent and expressed confidence that they would be cleared once the facts were presented to a competent judge.

The extradition request follows the receipt of new evidence from Bedfordshire police, which has brought the total number of alleged victims in the case to seven. The CPS confirmed that the latest charges stem from this additional evidence. The brothers had previously been involved in legal proceedings in Romania, where they were arrested in late 2022. That case did not proceed due to legal and procedural issues, and the brothers were allowed to leave Romania in February 2025 after travel restrictions were lifted, flying to Florida on a private jet.

In addition to the current charges, the Tate brothers face multiple other legal issues. In the UK, they are accused of tax evasion and money laundering, while in Romania, they were accused of participating in criminal schemes to lure women for sexual exploitation. Four women have also accused Andrew of physical and sexual abuse between 2013 and 2015. A UK High Court judge recently dismissed a bid by the Tates to learn the identities of these accusers, who have been granted anonymity.
