Talleres de Córdoba appoint Jorge Sampaoli as head coach
The 66-year-old strategist signs a contract with assistants Pablo Fernández, Marcos Fernández, and Diogo Meschine Alves to lead preseason preparations for the second half of 2026.

Talleres de Córdoba’s Board of Directors has officially announced the appointment of Jorge Sampaoli as the new head coach of the first team, marking the return of the Casilda native to the Argentine top division. The 66-year-old manager brings a substantial international portfolio to the club, having previously led Chile to victory in the 2015 Copa América and managed the Argentina national team at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Club leadership emphasised the significant institutional effort required to secure a coach with Sampaoli’s distinct personality and clear footballing identity. Sampaoli’s managerial career includes stints at European clubs such as Sevilla and Olympique de Marseille, as well as prominent Brazilian sides including Flamengo, Santos, and Atlético Mineiro.
The appointment was formalised immediately upon announcement, with Sampaoli signing his contract alongside his appointed assistants: Pablo Fernández, Marcos Fernández, and Diogo Meschine Alves. The new coaching staff is scheduled to assume their duties this Thursday to commence preseason preparations for the second half of 2026.
This move signals a strategic shift for Talleres de Córdoba as they seek to strengthen their squad for the latter stages of the 2026 season. The club’s decision to engage a figure of Sampaoli’s stature reflects a commitment to establishing a specific tactical identity within the team.
While the specific duration of Sampaoli’s contract has not been disclosed, the immediate commencement of his tenure suggests an urgent focus on stabilising the squad ahead of the upcoming competitive fixtures. The coaching staff will begin their work with the club’s preseason activities.
