TalkSPORT host Alan Brazil to return to airwaves weeks after life-saving surgery
The 66-year-old, who has fronted the station’s breakfast programme for over 25 years, posted an update from Suffolk confirming he is “on the mend” after being absent since March.

Alan Brazil, the long-serving TalkSPORT radio host and former professional footballer, has announced he expects to return to broadcasting within a few weeks following a life-saving operation. The 66-year-old, who has fronted the station’s breakfast show for more than 25 years, shared a video update on Instagram confirming his rapid improvement.
Brazil, who has been absent from his daily programme since March, described his recovery as a “miracle” and credited the National Health Service and staff at Cambridge hospitals with saving his life. In the message, recorded while he sat in a garden in Suffolk, he stated he was “on the mend” and expressed gratitude for the messages of support he has received.
“I was nearly gone, I don’t mind telling you,” Brazil said in the update. He added that he was missing the radio environment and confirmed his return would not be long, estimating it would take “a few weeks” before he was back on air.
The specific nature of the surgery has not been disclosed by Brazil or the broadcaster. The former Ipswich Town, Tottenham Hotspur, and Manchester United striker has not provided further medical details beyond describing the procedure as life-saving and his recovery as rapid.
Brazil made more than 150 league appearances for Ipswich Town during his playing career, earning 13 caps for Scotland. He also played for Coventry City, Queens Park Rangers, and non-league side Wivenhoe Town. His return marks the end of a significant absence from one of the UK’s most prominent sports radio platforms.
