The race for the top of the Betfred Super League table tightened further this weekend as Leeds Rhinos moved back above Wigan Warriors. The Rhinos had been overtaken by the Warriors on Friday night, but they responded with a comprehensive 66-16 defeat of York Knights at the LNER Community Stadium. This result secured their position at the summit of the table as the season enters its final stages.

Leeds established a commanding 36-0 lead by half-time, setting the tone for a one-sided contest. Riley Lumb was the standout performer, scoring three tries, while Chris Hankinson added two tries and four conversions. The Rhinos also saw Matt Lodge score his debut try for the club, with contributions from Kallum Watkins, Mikolaj Oledzki, Lachie Miller, Ryan Hall, Brodie Croft, and Ash Handley.

York Knights managed to limit the damage in the second half, with Sam Wood, Jon Bennison, and David Nofoaluma finding the try line. Bennison also converted two tries for the visitors, but the deficit was too large to overcome. Leeds continued to add points through the second half, with Lumb completing a hat-trick and adding a fourth try before the final whistle.

In the other major fixture, Warrington Wolves maintained their momentum with a 34-24 victory over Huddersfield Giants at Halliwell Jones Stadium. The win marked the fifth consecutive victory for the Wire in the Betfred Super League. Despite an early try by Huddersfield’s Sam Halsall, Warrington took control of the match, leading 22-4 at the break.

Huddersfield fought back after the restart, with Halsall scoring his second try and Sam Hewitt and Connor Wrench also crossing the line. However, Warrington’s George Flanagan and Leon Hayes provided the necessary kicking support, with Hayes converting multiple tries and penalties to secure the win. Matty Ashton’s late try helped wrap up the victory for the hosts.

With the play-offs approaching, the form of both Warrington and Leeds suggests they will be key contenders. The Rhinos’ ability to respond immediately to being overtaken highlights their intent to finish the regular season in first place, while Warrington’s consistency indicates a strong challenge for a high seeding.
