Spurs force Game 7 with Wembanyama’s dominant performance against Thunder
The Spurs defeated the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder 118-91 in Game 6, setting up a decisive showdown in Oklahoma City on Saturday night.

The San Antonio Spurs have forced a decisive Game 7 in the NBA Western Conference finals, defeating the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder 118-91 on Thursday night. The victory levels the best-of-seven series at three games apiece, shifting the momentum to the Spurs who will now travel to Oklahoma City for the final showdown.
Victor Wembanyama anchored the Spurs’ performance, recording a game-high 28 points, 10 rebounds, two steals, and three blocks in 28 minutes of play. The 7-foot-4 centre demonstrated composure throughout the contest, including a second deep three-pointer just 90 seconds into the game that prompted an emergency timeout from Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault. Wembanyama subbed out with nine minutes remaining, nodding in approval of the completed task.
The Spurs’ defensive structure significantly impacted the Thunder’s key players. Reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was held to a team-high 15 points on 6-for-18 shooting. Over the final four games of the series, Gilgeous-Alexander has missed 44 of his 69 shot attempts, with San Antonio’s defenders effectively neutralising his drives and limiting his trips to the free-throw line.
Supporting cast contributions were vital to the Spurs’ success. Rookie Dylan Harper provided a spark off the bench with 18 points on 6-for-9 shooting, contrasting with veteran De’Aaron Fox’s struggles. Additionally, Devin Vassell and Julian Champagnie each recorded two blocks, highlighting the team’s defensive length. The Spurs held the Thunder to 73.9 points per 100 half-court possessions and limited them to a 48% conversion rate at the rim.
Game 7 will be held in Oklahoma City on Saturday night, with the Thunder currently favoured by 4.5 points. The winner of the series is scheduled to host the New York Knicks in Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday.
