SportsLine model projects high-scoring affair as Rays host Tigers
Tampa Bay enters the contest with the American League’s best record, while Detroit sits last in its division ahead of first pitch at Tropicana Field.

SportsLine’s computer model has released its projections for the Major League Baseball contest between the Detroit Tigers and the Tampa Bay Rays, scheduled for Monday, June 1, 2026. The algorithm, which simulates every game 10,000 times, has identified value in the betting markets ahead of the fixture at Tropicana Field in Tampa, Florida.
The matchup presents a stark contrast in form for the two clubs. The Rays hold the best record in the American League at 36-20, while the Tigers languish in last place in the AL Central Division with a 22-38 record, sitting 11.5 games behind the division-leading Cleveland Guardians.
First pitch is set for 6:40 p.m. ET on Monday. Ty Madden (0-0, 2.38 ERA) is scheduled to start for Detroit, while the Rays will hand the ball to Griffin Jax (1-3, 3.60 ERA).
The model projects an Over on the total runs line of 8, estimating 9.5 combined runs. This projection aligns with recent trends, as the Over has hit in four of the Rays’ last six games, whereas the Under has appeared in four of Detroit’s last five contests. Tampa Bay ranks sixth in home scoring, averaging 5.0 runs per game at Tropicana Field.
Individual player metrics form part of the simulation’s output. The model projects Kerry Carpenter, Riley Greene, and Kevin McGonigle to each achieve 1.6 or more total bases for the Tigers. For the Rays, Jonathan Aranda, Junior Caminero, and Yandy Diaz are projected to reach similar benchmarks.
Tampa Bay is listed as a -160 favourite on the money line. While the model has identified value on one side of that line, the specific selection requires access to the SportsLine platform. The projection system is currently on a 17-5 run, representing a 77 per cent success rate on top-rated MLB picks for Week 11 of the season.
