Free MLB home run picks August 7: Astros' Jose Altuve among expert's best bets for Friday
Matt Severance highlights historical matchups against traded pitchers Robbie Ray and Kevin Gausman

SportsLine analyst Matt Severance has published MLB home run prop betting recommendations for Friday, August 7, identifying Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve and Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. as key targets. The analysis focuses on favourable historical data against opposing pitchers making their debuts for newly acquired teams.

Altuve is selected to hit a home run against San Diego Padres pitcher Robbie Ray, citing a strong historical record. In 20 career at-bats against Ray, Altuve has recorded a 1.740 OPS, including two home runs, three doubles, and a triple. Ray, acquired from the San Francisco Giants ahead of the trade deadline, holds a 3.08 ERA this season but has allowed 15 home runs.

Witt Jr. is recommended to hit a home run against Chicago Cubs pitcher Kevin Gausman. Witt has a 5-for-15 record against Gausman, including two home runs and a double. Gausman, traded from the Toronto Blue Jays, has allowed 21 home runs this season despite a 3.83 ERA in 14 career playoff games.

The report also notes that New York Yankees star Aaron Judge has been cleared for "light activity" following a stress fracture in his right rib. However, he is not expected to return before September, with manager Aaron Boone indicating he would require significant ramp-up time.

Severance, who is up $1,681 over the past four MLB seasons, suggests that the absence of Judge and other power hitters may result in no 50-homer hitter in 2026, a feat last achieved in 2021. He recommends betting on home run props at DraftKings, BetMGM, and FanDuel.
