South Carolina suspends Dylan Stewart indefinitely
The defensive player will miss the Kentucky game after punching Alabama tight end Josh Ford; coach Shane Beamer says his status beyond that match remains undecided.
South Carolina has suspended defensive player Dylan Stewart indefinitely after he punched Alabama tight end Josh Ford during the Gamecocks’ 49–18 loss. Coach Shane Beamer said Stewart will miss the upcoming game against Kentucky.
Beamer said the suspension reflected both the punch and other conduct he considered below the programme’s standards. He said he was still meeting with Stewart and would decide in the next day or so what his future with the team would look like after the Kentucky game.
The incident followed earlier disciplinary episodes cited by CBS Sports: Stewart was ejected against Vanderbilt last season and penalised for a gesture after a sack against Ole Miss in 2024.
South Carolina was 2–2 overall and winless in SEC play at the time of the report. Kentucky was ranked No. 24.
Beamer said he had spoken with athletic director Jeremiah Donati after the loss and described the administrators’ response as supportive. Stewart’s longer-term status remains unresolved.
