South Carolina coaching call weighed against cost of change
CBS Sports reports that sources expect Shane Beamer to remain in the near term, with a coaching change potentially costing at least $40 million.

South Carolina is unlikely to dismiss football coach Shane Beamer in the near future, despite an eight-game SEC losing streak, according to unnamed sources cited by CBS Sports. The report describes that outlook as a source expectation, not a formal university decision.
One donor estimated a coaching change could cost at least $40 million, including Beamer’s estimated $22.5 million buyout, remaining assistant contracts and the cost of hiring a new staff. The figures are estimates, not confirmed expenses.
The university is also in the early stages of a Williams-Brice Stadium renovation estimated at $350 million. The project is being funded through several channels, including 30-year bonds expected to be repaid by 2056.
South Carolina’s latest defeat was a 35–34 overtime loss to Kentucky, after the Gamecocks led by 17 points. The report says the university has not ruled out a coaching change if results do not improve.
Beamer said after the loss that he believed the administration had been supportive. The report says athletic director Jeremiah Donati, who took over in 2024, has voiced support for Beamer previously but has been quiet so far in 2026.
