Sony confirms God of War Laufey release date for February 2027
The studio also confirmed a future Kratos-led installment is in development following the new release.

Sony has officially confirmed that God of War Laufey will launch for the PlayStation 5 on February 16, 2027. The announcement was made during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con and disseminated through PlayStation’s social media channels. Developed by Santa Monica Studio, the title marks a significant shift in the franchise’s narrative structure by placing Laufey, also known as Faye, in the lead role.
The game will explore the afterlife of the gods, taking place after the events of God of War Ragnarok where Laufey dies. Players will experience her combat prowess, which has previously only been hinted at in earlier installments. This focus on a non-Kratos protagonist represents a departure from the series’ eponymous lead, offering a fresh perspective on the established mythology.
Details regarding the gameplay were partially revealed approximately a month prior to the official announcement. A sneak peek of footage showed Laufey utilising magical abilities and engaging in aerial combat against gods and creatures not previously seen in the franchise. The footage highlighted her agility and power, providing a glimpse into the mechanics that will define the upcoming title.
Santa Monica Studio used the same Comic-Con panel to confirm that the franchise will continue beyond this installment. The studio verified that another Kratos-led God of War game is planned for release following the launch of God of War Laufey. Specific details regarding the timeline for this subsequent title have not yet been disclosed.
As of the announcement, the game is available for pre-order via the PlayStation store. The February 2027 release date positions the title as a key entry in Sony’s upcoming software lineup, capitalising on the enduring popularity of the God of War brand. Investors and industry observers will be monitoring the development progress closely, particularly given the studio’s commitment to delivering multiple entries in the series.
