Jannik Sinner has secured the Italian Open title, defeating Casper Ruud 6-4, 6-2 in the final at the Nicola Pietrangeli Stadium. The victory marks Sinner’s sixth consecutive Masters 1000 title and establishes him as only the second man in history, following Novak Djokovic, to claim titles at all nine Masters 1000 events.

Sinner achieved this milestone in 42 matches, a significantly more efficient run than Djokovic, who required 104 matches to complete his own sweep. The 24-year-old Italian now holds ten Masters titles and maintains an 81 per cent win rate in these tournaments, according to data from OptaAce.

The win ends a 48-year drought for Italian men at the tournament, with the last local champion being Adriano Panatta in 1976. Panatta is noted for being the only man to ever defeat Bjorn Borg at Roland Garros and for winning his Rome title by coming from behind against Guillermo Vilas.

Sinner’s performance has extended his ATP Tour winning streak to 29 consecutive matches. Commentary from Sky Sports highlighted the consistency of his play, with a seven-time Grand Slam doubles winner noting that Sinner’s high performance floor makes it difficult for opponents to regain momentum if they let up for even a few points.

With defending champion Carlos Alcaraz sidelined by a wrist injury sustained at the Barcelona Open in April, Sinner enters the upcoming Roland Garros as a strong favourite. The French Open is scheduled to begin during the week commencing 24 May, with other potential contenders including Alexander Zverev, Taylor Fritz, and Daniil Medvedev.
