Shaw-Rashford partnership gives United attacking lift as Carrick faces congested schedule
Luke Shaw’s contribution against Everton was praised by Wayne Rooney, Ashley Young and Michael Carrick, while Marcus Rashford’s fitness remains uncertain.

Luke Shaw’s defensive work and attacking contribution against Everton have strengthened the case for Manchester United’s left-sided partnership with Marcus Rashford, according to assessments reported by Yahoo Sports.
Shaw provided the cross for Benjamin Sesko’s late header and was praised for his willingness to push forward. Former United striker Wayne Rooney described him as “really good”, highlighting his defensive leadership and threat in attack.
Ashley Young said Shaw’s overlapping runs and deliveries had helped put Everton’s defence on the back foot. Michael Carrick also identified Shaw and Rashford as particularly dangerous on that side, citing their established understanding.
That combination may now be weighed against a fitness concern. Rashford left in the second half after feeling “something”, with Carrick saying he hoped the issue was not serious. No diagnosis or recovery timeframe has been provided.
Carrick must also manage United through four matches in 11 days, including a Thursday fixture against Sabah and Sunday’s Manchester derby. The schedule leaves unresolved questions over selection, workload and how much involvement Shaw, Rashford and Sesko will have in the immediate run of games.
