Shankland set for Rangers return on free transfer
Lawrence Shankland is returning to Glasgow for a medical and to finalise a two-year deal, with the move enabled by a contractual clause.

Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland has agreed personal terms to join Rangers on a free transfer, according to reports from Yahoo Sports. The 30-year-old striker is currently returning to Glasgow from holiday to undergo a medical and sign a two-year contract with an option for a third year.
The transfer is facilitated by a specific clause within Shankland’s existing Hearts contract, allowing him to leave the Edinburgh side without a transfer fee. The move marks a homecoming for the Scotland international, who supported Rangers as a boy.
Should the transfer be completed, Shankland is positioned to potentially assume the captaincy at Ibrox. Reports suggest he could overtake current squad leaders, including centre-half Emmanuel Fernandez and midfielder Nicolas Raskin, in the hierarchy.
The development comes amidst broader speculation regarding Rangers’ summer transfer activities. The club is reportedly engaged in talks with Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil as his contract nears its conclusion, while also monitoring the availability of several other players.
However, the report from Yahoo Sports carries a label of 'gossip', indicating that the information may not yet be officially confirmed by both clubs. The potential change in captaincy remains speculative and contingent on the finalisation of the transfer and subsequent managerial decisions.
