Shankland completes 'dream' move to Rangers from Hearts
Scottish striker signs two-year deal at Ibrox

Scottish striker Lawrence Shankland has completed his transfer from Heart of Midlothian to Rangers, signing a two-year contract with an option to extend for a further 12 months. The 30-year-old forward described the move as the fulfilment of a lifelong ambition to join his boyhood club, marking a significant shift in the Scottish Premiership landscape.

Shankland arrives at Ibrox with a substantial record of productivity in Scotland, having scored 88 goals in 171 appearances across four seasons at Tynecastle. His tenure at Hearts included a standout campaign this past season, where he netted 20 goals in 34 games in all competitions. Notably, he scored four times against Rangers during his time with the Edinburgh side, contributing to their second-place finish in the Scottish Premiership, where they narrowly missed out on the title to Celtic on the final day.

Rangers head coach Danny Rohl welcomed the acquisition, citing Shankland’s proven quality, leadership, and work ethic as key assets. Rohl noted that the striker understands the specific demands and expectations associated with playing for Rangers, believing his character and experience will be a substantial benefit to the squad. The club finished third this season, eight points behind Hearts, as they continue their pursuit of domestic silverware.

Prior to his stint at Hearts, Shankland played for Queen's Park, Aberdeen, Ayr United, Dundee United, and Beerschot. He was out of contract at Hearts last summer and had previously been linked with a move to Ibrox before committing to a three-year deal in late June. His immediate focus now shifts to international duty, as he joins the Scotland national squad for the World Cup under manager Steve Clarke.

Shankland, who has scored four times in 18 appearances for Scotland, expressed his desire to be a central figure in Rangers’ efforts to win silverware more regularly. Rohl confirmed that while Shankland will miss Champions League qualifiers with Hearts, he is expected to join the squad for pre-season training in Glasgow after the international tournament concludes this summer.
