Sempra shares have underperformed the Dow Jones Industrial Average across recent periods, according to a report carried by Yahoo Finance and originally published by Barchart. The stock was down 4.8% year to date and nearly 7% over three months, while the Dow gained 11.1% and 3.6%, respectively.

Shares were also 16.8% below their reported 52-week high of US$101.04 and had traded below their 50-day and 200-day moving averages since late July. Over 52 weeks, Sempra rose 2.3%, compared with a 17.1% gain for the Dow.

The performance came despite second-quarter 2026 adjusted earnings per share of US$1.16, which exceeded expectations. Revenue of US$2.997 billion, however, fell short of consensus estimates, and the shares declined marginally on 6 August.

Investor caution also focused on Sempra’s balance sheet and outlook. Long-term debt rose to US$31.02 billion from US$28.98 billion at the end of 2025, while its 2026 earnings-per-share guidance of US$4.80 to US$5.30 had a midpoint below consensus expectations.

Sempra operates regulated utilities and energy infrastructure businesses in the United States and Mexico through Sempra California, Sempra Texas Utilities and Sempra Infrastructure. The company has nevertheless outperformed rival Vistra, whose shares fell 7.5% year to date and 21.3% over 52 weeks.

Analysts remain optimistic, with 20 analysts maintaining a consensus Strong Buy rating and a mean price target of US$101.67, nearly 21% above the reported current level. Ratings and price targets are expectations rather than guarantees of future performance.
