SEC seeks third straight ACC/SEC Challenge victory as Duke-Florida clash headlines 2026 slate
The 16-game schedule features a potential top-two showdown, while SMU and Cal are excluded from this year’s competition.

The official schedule for the 2026 ACC/SEC Challenge has been confirmed, establishing a 16-game slate that centres on a high-profile clash between Duke and Florida. The matchup is projected to feature the No. 1 and No. 2 ranked teams in college basketball, marking the first regular-season meeting of such calibre since Auburn faced Alabama during SEC play in 2025.
The Southeastern Conference enters the 2026 challenge aiming for a third consecutive series victory. Over the previous two seasons, the SEC has maintained a 30-16 record against the Atlantic Coast Conference, a performance metric that places significant pressure on the ACC to reverse the trend in this year’s competition.
Beyond the headline bout, the schedule includes several other significant inter-conference tests. Texas will face Louisville in what analysts describe as a potential top 15 matchup, while North Carolina hosts John Calipari’s Arkansas squad. Miami and Alabama are also scheduled to meet, adding to the depth of the conference rivalry.
Roster composition and coaching changes are expected to heavily influence the outcomes of these fixtures. Florida returns its entire starting frontcourt, including Thomas Haugh, while Duke boasts one of the deepest rosters in the sport, featuring returners such as Patrick Ngongba II and Dame Sarr. Louisville has bolstered its roster with a top-ranked transfer portal class, whereas North Carolina enters a new era under first-year coach Michael Malone.
Notably, SMU and Cal will not participate in this year’s challenge, altering the traditional landscape of the event. The games are scheduled to commence on December 1, with the Duke-Florida contest serving as the primary focal point for the opening day of the 2026-27 college basketball season.
