Seattle Seahawks secure Dante Fowler with Super Bowl pitch from DeMarcus Lawrence

Former Dallas Cowboys defensive end Dante Fowler has confirmed that DeMarcus Lawrence convinced him to sign with the Seattle Seahawks by promising a Super Bowl title. The recruitment pitch reportedly took place during a 30-minute FaceTime conversation between the two players, which Fowler described as the primary factor in his decision to leave Dallas for the 2026 season.

Lawrence, who won the Lombardi Trophy with Seattle in his first season after leaving Dallas, used the same assurance to secure Fowler's services. Fowler, who previously played alongside Lawrence with the Cowboys during the 2022 and 2023 seasons, stated that Lawrence's message was the deciding element in his move to Seattle, where the team is expected to field one of the league's strongest defences.

The recruitment strategy aligns with Lawrence's previous public stance on the Dallas franchise. Prior to joining Seattle, Lawrence had stated he was not going to win a Super Bowl in Dallas, a claim that came true when he joined Seattle and won the championship in his first season there. Fowler noted that Lawrence's prediction proved correct, suggesting it was not a bad strategy to keep reminding potential recruits of that success.

Fowler recorded 10 sacks over 34 games with Dallas during his tenure with the Cowboys in 2022 and 2023. After spending the 2024 season with the Washington Commanders, he returned to Dallas for the 2025 season, where he recorded three sacks and 10 quarterback hits. There is some thought that Fowler could see his sack total rise in 2026 on a loaded Seahawks defence, potentially seeing more one-on-one matchups against multiple players commanding defensive attention.

Even without Fowler, the Seahawks were expected to boast one of the league's strongest defences in 2026. If he can get back to his double-digit sack totals, Fowler could be a key cog that keeps the Seahawks at the top of the defensive ratings once again. And if that leads to yet another championship, Fowler will have Lawrence to thank for the initial recruitment pitch.

The decision follows a period of uncertainty regarding Fowler's future, with the 30-minute FaceTime call serving as the catalyst for his commitment.
