Seahawks poised to sign Lions’ Arnold amid ongoing felony charges
Cornerback Terrion Arnold, released by Detroit following arrest in Tampa, has completed a tryout with Seattle after visits to three other franchises.
The Seattle Seahawks are preparing to sign cornerback Terrion Arnold, the former Detroit Lions player who was released earlier this year following his arrest on felony charges. The development follows a tryout conducted earlier this week, with sources confirming to ESPN and NFL Network that the agreement is imminent.
Arnold, a first-round selection in the 2024 NFL draft, had previously held discussions with the Houston Texans, New Orleans Saints, and New York Giants before settling on Seattle. Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald described the interaction as a positive experience, noting it was a great visit and tryout, while acknowledging the complexity of the circumstances surrounding the player.
Macdonald stated that the organisation is aware of the issues surrounding Arnold and is working through the situation. He expressed personal satisfaction with the meeting, indicating that the on-field evaluation proceeded despite the external pressures. The finalisation of the signing remains contingent on the NFL’s administrative response to the legal matters.
The charges stem from an incident in early February in Tampa, Florida, where Arnold is accused of orchestrating the kidnapping and beating of three men. Prosecutors allege he wrongly suspected the individuals of stealing $100,000 in cash, luxury watches, and bags. Arnold faces four counts of kidnapping and four counts of armed robbery, allegations which carry a potential sentence of life in prison.
Through his representatives, Arnold has denied the allegations. No trial date has been set for the legal proceedings. The NFL is now required to determine whether to place Arnold on the commissioner’s exempt list, a mechanism that would allow the league to manage his status while the court cases are resolved.
