Schouten Europe acquires Bobeldijk Food Group to boost plant-based capacity
Family-owned Schouten Europe has purchased Deventer-based Bobeldijk Food Group to increase production capabilities and strengthen its position in the European plant-based market.

Family-owned Schouten Europe has acquired Dutch plant-based producer Bobeldijk Food Group, a move designed to increase production capacity and solidify its regional market standing. The acquisition brings Bobeldijk, which reported annual sales of €20m ($22.6m), into the Schouten Europe portfolio, which generates approximately €45m in annual revenue.
Schouten Europe stated that the deal provides a broader base for supporting customers internationally. The company noted that the added capacity and flexibility would benefit its international customer base, although it declined to specify which countries would see the most immediate impact from the expanded operations.
CEO Niek-Jan Schouten highlighted the rapid development of the market as a key driver for the acquisition. He told Just Food, a GlobalData-owned brand that originally reported the deal, that customers are increasingly seeking partners that combine innovation, quality, flexibility, and reliable supply. The acquisition adds Schouten Europe’s existing knowledge and craftsmanship in plant-based products with Bobeldijk’s capabilities, creating what the CEO described as a stronger foundation for further growth.
Bobeldijk Food Group, headquartered in Deventer, transitioned from its butchery roots to exclusively plant-based and vegetarian products in 2020. The company focuses on private label products for retail and foodservice customers. Schouten Europe supplies private-label products to similar sectors, including retail outlets, the foodservice industry, and food manufacturers.
Specific details regarding staff transfers were not disclosed. Mr Schouten declined to comment on the number of Bobeldijk employees who would join Schouten Europe.
