Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkiye agree rapid deployment of forces

The Pakistani Foreign Ministry says the three countries will provide military forces and capabilities for deployment to Saudi Arabia in response to Houthi attacks.

Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkiye have agreed to provide military forces and capabilities for rapid deployment to Saudi Arabia, according to Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry.

The ministry said on Monday that the agreement would activate the Mecca Alliance’s collective deterrence measures in response to Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia. The alliance described the attacks as “heinous”.

The statement does not specify the size or type of forces, when deployment might occur, or whether any forces have already been sent.

The announcement comes as Yemen’s Saudi-backed government launches a counteroffensive against the Houthis. The operation aims to push them back from territory captured last month.
