Sam Darnold leaves Seahawks opener with hip injury
Seattle quarterback Sam Darnold was ruled questionable to return after leaving against New England following the opening drive.
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold left the NFL season opener against the New England Patriots after the opening drive with a hip injury and was ruled questionable to return.
Darnold was sacked by Patriots defensive lineman Dre’Mont Jones on the final play of the drive. He initially told Seattle’s training staff he did not need assessment before later being evaluated in the blue medical tent and going to the locker room.
Drew Lock replaced Darnold on Seattle’s second drive and remained at quarterback for the third. The Seahawks punted on the second drive, with the game scoreless just over 10 minutes into the first quarter.
Fox Sports reported that Darnold’s eventual status remained unresolved. The fixture was a rematch of Super Bowl LX, which Seattle won 29–13.
