Russian strikes kill eight across Ukraine as Moscow vows to continue war
Ukrainian authorities reported deaths in four regions, including three people killed at a children’s centre in Sumy. Moscow denied targeting civilians.
Russian strikes killed eight people across Ukraine on Sunday, according to Ukrainian authorities, as the country braces for winter. Three people died at a children’s centre in Sumy, including a 16-year-old girl, Interior Minister Ivan Vyhivskyi said.
Authorities also reported three deaths in Zaporizhzhia, one in Kyiv and one in Odesa. Kyiv officials said 16 sites had been damaged, including 12 homes. Odesa’s regional head reported damage to housing, a shop, a hotel, a medical building and a grain warehouse.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia launched about 3,900 drones, aerial bombs and missiles over the past week. He said the latest strikes hit schools, kindergartens, homes and other civilian infrastructure.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said it struck data centres in Kyiv, claiming they provided services to the Ukrainian army. Moscow denies targeting civilians; its account of the facilities’ military use was not independently established in the report.
The strikes followed Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s statement to the UN General Assembly on Saturday that Russia intended to continue its military campaign “to the end”. US-led talks to end the war have made no breakthrough, the report said.
